Residency Program – Application Requirements
Requirements for Application
Interested applicants must be Physical Therapists:
- Licensed or eligible for licensure, in the state of South Carolina.
- Practicing at the level of a competent clinician with basic patient management issues related to examination, diagnosis/prognosis and intervention.
- Display professional behaviors and a strong interest in sports and orthopaedic physical therapy.
- Current ATC designation, licensed EMT, or certification as an Emergency Responder.
Interested new graduates may apply prior to graduation and state licensure, however, all residents must be graduates of an APTA accredited program and licensed in the state of South Carolina by the start of the program year (August).
Application Process
Interested applicants are required to submit the following items as one complete application package:
- A letter of intent that includes the applicant’s
- Goals and objectives for the residency program
- Summary of prior clinical and educational experience
- Short and long-term career goals in the subspecialty area of sports physical therapy
- Current curriculum vitae
- Three letters of recommendation to include:
- Current or former supervisor. If the applicant is a recent graduate, they are to include a letter of recommendation from a clinical instructor.
- Instructor/faculty member from an accredited physical therapy education program.
All information should be received by March 1st to be considered for a July enrollment of the same calendar year.
Selection Process
The remaining applicants will be invited to participate in an extensive interview process with members of President of Proaxis Therapy, Directors of Proaxis Therapy Greenville and Spartanburg, Program Directors, clinical faculty members and adjunct residency faculty members from the Departments of Steadman-Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas. The interview will also include an evaluation of basic clinical competencies of the applicant through a simulated patient examination. The remaining applicants that were not granted an interview will be notified by mail by May 15.
Admission Process
- The top applicant will be notified by phone of his/her acceptance into the program. In addition, a formal letter of acceptance will be sent through the mail.
- The applicant will be required to provide written notification of his/her decision to accept or decline admittance within two (2) weeks of the phone call.
