Low Back Pain
Low back pain is a general term to describe a variety of conditions that result in pain and stiffness in the lumbar spine. Most people, at some point during their lives, will experience back pain that interferes with work, routine daily activities, or recreation.
Lumbar Disc Herniation
A herniated disc, sometimes referred to as a slipped or ruptured disc, is a common cause of back pain. Discs are small, circular cushions between the bones (vertebrae) of the spine. A herniated disc occurs when a small portion of the disc pushes into the spinal canal. This often causes irritation of one or more nerves and results in pain, numbness or weakness in the back and legs.
Lumbar Stenosis
Spinal lumbar stenosis is a narrowing of the space between the vertebrae in the lower back. This narrowing can place pressure on the spinal cord or nerves at the level of compression. Due to the location of the lumbar vertebrae (low in the vertebral column), lumbar stenosis can be exacerbated by long periods of standing and sitting.
Lumbar Instability
Lumbar instability is a debilitating condition that affects the lower (lumbar) spine and is often the result of abnormal movement of the lumbar vertebrae.
